The Inspection

What Is an ArkCertified Inspection?

A properly installed roof starts with a thorough, meticulous assessment. Ark's inspection process is designed to document everything about your home's condition, every point of damage and every potential hazard, even issues that aren't storm-related. You receive all of it for your own records, whether or not you choose to move forward with Ark afterward. The goal is simple: give you every detail you need to make a fully informed decision about your home.

Our 360 Inspection

A 360-Degree Inspection. Three Vantage Points. Nothing Missed.

Our inspection starts with a full visual assessment. We take detailed notes, photograph every relevant detail no matter how minor, and collect precise measurements. This catches storm and hail damage, but also pre-existing issues or improper original installation that could already be compromising your roof's structural integrity. Your safety and your property come first throughout. We wear specialized roofing shoes to protect your shingles, follow strict ladder safety protocols, and take precautions to protect your gutters from ladder contact.

01

From the Ground

We begin with a full 360-degree property walk-around, checking for and documenting every sign of damage, weather-related or not.

  • Exterior home components: gutter downspouts, garage doors, window screens and trim, AC units
  • Outdoor structures: sheds, fences, playsets, landscaping accessories, pool area and components
02

On the Roof

We take overview images from every angle so we can reference any specific area later if needed.

  • Drip edge, flashing, and gutters: inspecting how the previous system was installed at the roof's edge, which can reveal prior installation issues
  • Metal components: marking and documenting evidence of damage on pipes, vents, and flashings
  • Gutters: clogged or improperly installed gutters can lead to rotted trim, fascia, and even interior staining and leakage
  • Existing system: we identify the specific type and quality of your current shingles, metal, or tile, so that if you file an insurance claim, your roof gets replaced with the same or like-kind material
03

Inside the Attic

Last, we inspect the underside of your roofing system from inside the attic for signs of leaks and other damage.

  • Decking: rotted or compromised decking is a water damage risk and a safety liability for any crew working on your roof
  • Rafters and trusses: water damage here can compromise your roof's structural integrity, leading to more costly repairs if left untreated
  • Gas and HVAC lines: we visually note any utility or HVAC lines that are near or touching the attic decking, so a future install crew is aware of their location and can avoid puncturing them during installation.
  • Attic ventilation: we assess your attic's airflow, checking that soffit vents allow proper light and that stagnant areas have adequate ventilation

Why This Level of Documentation Matters in Central Texas

The September 24, 2023 hailstorm caused an estimated $600 million in combined damage across Travis and Williamson Counties according to the National Weather Service. (Source) When a storm event generates that volume of claims simultaneously, documentation quality is what separates a clean process from a drawn-out one. Whether you're filing an insurance claim or just deciding what your home actually needs, the ArkCertified inspection gives you the same evidence an adjuster, an appraiser, or your own peace of mind would require, down to identifying your exact existing material so any replacement matches like-kind.
